A Community Discussion on Federal Hate Crime Law and Enforcement with the FBI and USAO

October 27 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

AJC ChiTribe

AJC Chicago is privileged to be joined by Georgia Alexakis, Assistant US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois (as well as an AJC Project Interchange Alumna), and Supervisory Special Agent Joseph Holzman, leader of the Chicago FBI Civil Rights Unit. We will hear from the US Attorney’s Office about the different federal laws used in hate crime (including antisemitism) prosecutions, key case examples of prosecutions under those laws, and best practices for personal and community safety. From the FBI we will hear about what happens during hate crime investigations, and how the relationship between community members and law enforcement works, including how and when to report possible hate crimes.
