An Evening with Joy Ladin

September 11 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Join Eshel and Silverstein Base Hillel: Lincoln Park for an evening with Joy Ladin, the first openly transgender professor in an Orthodox institution, speak about and read from her new book, The Soul of the Stranger: Reading God and Torah from a Transgender Perspective.” In her book, Ladin interweaves readings of the Torah and autobiographical experience to show how religious tradition and transgender perspectives relate to and can enrich one another. “The focus of this book is not on how the Torah speaks to me as a transgender Jew, but on how reading Torah from a trans perspective has transformed my understanding of the Torah’s portrayals of God, humanity, and the relationship between us,” says Ladin. This event will begin with dessert and include time for Q&A.
