Chicago Mayoral Candidate Forum @ Temple Sholom

November 9, 2022 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

ALL are welcome! Register here: https://www.sholomchicago.org/mayor

Temple Sholom of Chicago has been at the forefront of addressing pressing issues in our country and in the City of Chicago for 155 years. As part of our history, many important civic leaders have spoken at our synagogue including Eleanor Roosevelt and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We continue that tradition to this day.

This year and early next year will be an important period in the City of Chicago as the next Mayoral election campaign gets underway. As such, Temple Sholom wishes to engage our membership and the entire community by presenting a forum for all announced Mayoral candidates to speak at our synagogue.

On the evening of November 9, 2022, from 7:00-8:30 PM, we will hold a forum at our synagogue entitled “Vision for Chicago” at which Mayoral candidates are being invited to speak on their vision for Chicago and the specific plans they have to improve our City. Rabbi Conover will ask the same series of questions on public safety, education, and economic investment to each mayoral candidate. This evening is open to the public.

This evening is being presented jointly by Temple Sholom’s Adult Education and Social Justice Committees. We are also inviting other Jewish community groups to join us, so that this is an opportunity not just to meet with our congregation, but also the Chicago Jewish community.

The format of this forum will be as follows: Our Senior Rabbi, Shoshanah Conover, will ask 3 identical questions of each candidate about their vision for Chicago, and each candidate will have 2 minutes to respond with a prepared answer. The topics will be on public safety, social justice, and education. Prior to the event, we will share the exact language of the questions with candidates so that they will be able to prepare answers in advance.

The event will be mixed presence – in person in our Sanctuary, as well as an online Zoom webinar. Advance registration is required, and the deadline for in-person registration is Monday, Nov. 7. All bags will be screened and checked. Parking is limited to those with disabilities or mobility issues in need of accessible parking.
