Elul Learning Series: A Dive into Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

September 24 @ 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

This two-part Elul learning series dives into the meaning of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and their relationship to teshuvah, repentance. For the first session we will focus on different midrashim–rabbinic interpretive narrative–and how they craft and construct the meaning of the shofar, the main mitzvah of Rosh Hashanah, in diverse and even subversive ways. Then for our second session reflecting on Yom Kippur, we will look at different conceptions of what teshuvah is. Is teshuvah a personal, intentional process? Or is it something that happens to you? Is it ever finished? Is repentance at all ambiguous or complicated? That is, how do I know that I have done teshuvah? As always drinks and snacks will be served! No skill level or previous experience with Torah learning required. Come and explore these holidays and themes in depth. Address and details provided the evening before the event.
