Volunteer with ChiTribe: Greater Chicago Food Depository – February 22ndVOLUNTEER FEBRUARY
The amount of food we are able to repackage is dependent on the number of scheduled volunteers; please keep us informed if there are any changes in volunteers or the number of volunteers you expect to represent your group. We much prefer to increase a group’s reservation size than to decrease it close to the session date.
Volunteers will be working in an active warehouse and everyone must be registered in order to volunteer in the warehouse. Location: 4100 W Ann Lurie Place Chicago, IL 60632
Description of Duties:
The Greater Chicago Food Depository regularly needs volunteers to help repack donated food and other products. The Repack session is a great introduction to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the work we do, and the need that we see in Cook County. A lot of the food we receive at our warehouse comes in bulk quantities, and volunteers are scheduled to help us break it down into more manageable sizes. In a Repack session, you may sort produce, inspect and box shipments of bread, or repack bulk dry goods (pasta, rice, beans) into smaller quantities. Together, we can properly and efficiently distribute quality food to participating food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in Cook County. The minimum age to volunteer is 11 years old, and 11-15 years old must be accompanied by an adult chaperone (who must also register).
Contact Person: Sammy Kaplan, email@example.com
Arrival Time: Please plan on arriving no later than 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the session. Doors for check-in open 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Parking: Volunteers may use the meter free parking on Karlov Ave, along Ann Lurie (42nd) Place or along Keeler Ave. During normal business hours, the parking lot is reserved for staff and guests with disabilities. Our parking lot is open to volunteers during Wednesday evening and Saturday sessions.
Food Onsite: Volunteers may consume food, snacks or beverages on-site in the designated area near volunteer check-in.
Minimum Age: Volunteers must be 11 years old. Volunteers 11 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18 (who must also register).
Group Notes: If you are bringing in a photographer/videographer, please contact us in advance to make arrangements. Volunteer groups may only book one Wednesday evening and one Saturday Repack session per month. Please contact our team if you have any special needs that we should be aware of before your session.
Youth Groups: High school and youth groups must have at least 1 chaperone for every 10 youth, e.g., 15 youth require 2 chaperones; 18 youth require 2 chaperones, and 27 youth require 3 chaperones.
Group Size: Weekday group size maximum is 30 volunteers, the evening session maximum is 20 volunteers, and Saturday maximum group size is 15 volunteers.
