Event Details
During the month of Elul, the last month of the Jewish calendar, the shofar is blown every morning at minyan.
In celebration of the sounding of the shofar in Elul, and the coming of the High Holy Day season, Temple Har Zion presents “Shofar Walk in the Park,” a stroll from the temple to Austin Gardens Park, 167 Forest Ave, Oak Park, where we will enjoy the shofar, songs, and sandwiches.
- Come to the temple and walk, slowly, with us to the park, sounding the shofar as we go.
- Or, of course, you can meet us at the park. Austin Gardens borders downtown Oak Park; you can park on the street or in one of several municipal lots (parking map; parking is free on Sundays).
- Bring your family and friends. Your pets are welcome to join in the fun too!
- This year Shofar in the Park is being held in the morning, on the first day that Koven Religious School school meets for fall 2025, so KRS students will be joining the walk. KRS parents will pick their students up at Austin Gardens. (So why not join in?)
- We will also have special activities for our youngest children at the park.
We will sing together and blow the shofar together as we walk and also at the park, preparing our hearts for this most precious and sacred time of the year.
Maimonides teaches that the Shofar is the blast that wakes us up to spiritual alertness for a sweet and good new year!
Join us! Registration is not required.
