Creative Rest with Ayeola Omolara Kaplan
April 20 @ 5:00 PM - 6:30 PMFree
Sustenance for collective liberation!
Join us for a Creative Rest session with artist, Ayeola Omolara Kaplan! Together we will explore how through creativity we are able to communicate with ourselves and the world unlimited by word and through art we can harness the power of creativity for our collective healing.
Ayeola Omolara Kapan (she/her) is a Black, Queer and Jewish artist. Through depicting the intersections of identity, class, and spirituality, Ayeola hopes to meaningfully contribute to the growing body of revolutionary art. She creates with the belief that art can be weaponized as self-defense against an anti-truth culture plagued by unhealed generational trauma. Her work features electrifying, surrealist imagery, created to celebrate the empowerment of oppressed people. In her experience, art is equally a spiritual and political medium. Art is the language that Ayeola uses to fully reclaim the power within herself. She hopes that through sharing her work, she is able to help spread joy and inspire folks to live truthfully and committed to building a world where we can all experience peace, freedom and equity.
During this 75 minute virtual session we’ll start with a spiritual framing grounded in Torah from Rabbi Adina Allen before hearing from our guest presenter. Using the Jewish Studio Process – a unique methodology combining practices from the field of art therapy with a reimagined approach to Jewish learning and spirituality – we’ll process and integrate what’s been shared. Together we’ll build our collective understanding of and strategies for creative rest to sustain us in the work of social change.
This program is offered free of charge and will take place on Zoom with closed captions.
