May 18 @ 5:00 PM - 6:30 PMFree
Sustenance for collective liberation!
Nourish your creativity to sustain yourself in the work of collective liberation. Come relax into reverie, replenish and unwind in Creative Rest with Batya Levine and Aly Halpert! Together will explore opening to song as a way to turn towards ourselves, the divine & the world we are dreaming of.
Batya Levine (they/them) uses song as a tool for cultivating healing and resilience in their work as a communal song leader, shaliach tzibur (Jewish prayer leader) and cultural organizer. Batya is a co-founder and Director of Programs at Let My People Sing!, and they compose original music made of Ashkenazi yearning, queer heart-medicine, and emunah (faith).
Aly Halpert (she/her) is a queer Jewish musician, educator, and activist living on Lenni Lenape land in Philadelphia, PA, USA. A singer, pianist, drummer, and guitar player, Aly writes songs for building community, working for collective liberation, and visioning different worlds. Aly leads music and prayer for Jewish community, including Kol Tzedek Synagogue, Eden Village Camp, Let My People Sing, and Linke Fligl.
During this 75 minute virtual session we’ll start with a spiritual framing grounded in Torah from Rabbi Adina Allen before hearing from our guest presenter. Using the Jewish Studio Process – a unique methodology combining practices from the field of art therapy with a reimagined approach to Jewish learning and spirituality – we’ll process and integrate what’s been shared. Together we’ll build our collective understanding of and strategies for creative rest to sustain us in the work of social change.
This program is offered free of charge and will take place on Zoom with closed captions.
