Junior Klezmer Orchestra 30th Anniversary Concert
May 2 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
$32Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Junior Klezmer Orchestra (JKO), an ensemble of Middle and High School musicians dedicated to carrying on the tradition of klezmer and Yiddish music. Eighteen former JKO members will travel from across the country to perform with current students and the acclaimed Maxwell Street Klezmer Band. The concert will feature remarks by Ian Weinberger, Musical Director of Hamilton on Broadway and a former Junior Klezmer. The evening will raise funds for the Klezmer Music Foundation, an Illinois 501(c)(3) organization, helping to create new opportunities for young musicians for decades to come.
About the JKO: The JKO is a youth ensemble that welcomes students of all backgrounds and skill levels to learn the art of klezmer and Yiddish music. Under the leadership of Alex Koffman, Lori Lippitz, and musicians from the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band, young instrumentalists and vocalists build skills, make new friends, and gain an appreciation of Eastern European Jewish cultural heritage. The JKO performs at festivals, libraries, senior residences, and other venues, and has been featured on WFMT/98.7 radio. Email klezmermusicfoundation@gmail.com for more information.
