On-Site Live Performance: A Night in Miami

March 28 @ 6:30 PM

Join us at the Museum with Chicago’s Emmy-Award-winning Orbert Davis, trumpeter, composer, and educator; along with his Jazz Quartet and Lidice Oran, vocalist; for a celebratory evening inspired by the hustle and bustle of Jewish life in South Beach. More than music, this program is a tribute to the resilience, camaraderie, and indomitable spirit of the “shtetl in the sun.”

A mere two square miles with over 20,000 elderly Jews, including New York transplants and Holocaust Survivors, South Beach was once an energetic and thriving hub that held Jewish services outdoors with sun-drenched beaches as a backdrop. In the late 1970s, photographer Andy Sweet captured the essence of this vibrant community with his camera, dispelling the common stereotype of “God’s Waiting Room.” Many of these colorful snapshots are on display in the Museum’s current special exhibition, Shtetl in the Sun: Andy Sweet’s South Beach 1977-1980.

Complimentary signature cocktails by KOVAL will be served.

Reservations required. Free to the public: https://ihm.ec/nightinmiami
