The Heart Behind the Bread: Shabbat dinner with Zeitlin’s Deli

Bagels, Bread & Babka are the three staples that make up Chicago-based bakery and delicatessen, Zeitlin’s Deli. Led by brothers Sam and Hal, Zeitlin’s started as a bagel brain child and is now a full grown small business centered around Ashkenazi Jewish comfort food with a twist. Now they are operating in their own kitchen space and hope to open their very own brick-and-mortar storefront. Join us for a dinner conversation that will be full, lively, and authentic!
At this Shabbat dinner, you’ll have the opportunity to share a Shabbat meal with Sam Zeitlin, the head chef, and other Chicago community members. As a guest, you can expect to engage with and learn about the shared values between Zeitlin’s Deli and OneTable, and find out how and why an intentional small business consistently weaves in Jewish values in the modern service industry business. Specifically, we’re going to examine the capitalistic economic environment small businesses operate in and ask the question: what’s Shabbat got to do with it? This communal conversation will help guide our intentions for a joyful Shabbat while supporting a small business.
