An Accessible Bat Mitzvah – Talkback With 13-Year-Old Disability Rights Advocate

February 5 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Free

Kick off Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance & Inclusion Month (JDAIM) with an inspiring conversation featuring Gavi Engel-Yan, a 13-year-old disability advocate and activist from Ontario, Canada. Gavi was born with a rare neuromuscular condition called nemaline myopathy causing her to be in a wheelchair and affects her speaking voice.

Gavi dedicated her bat mitzvah to advocating for accessibility in the Jewish world. During this virtual talkback, she’ll address the joys and oy’s preparing for this milestone in her Jewish life and how she overcame barriers as a young Jewish girl with disabilities trying to participate in Jewish communal life.

*Live captioning will be available for this program.
