Let’s Meet Jewish Person of the Week – Jeremy Drazner

Where did you grow up?

Buffalo Grove, Illinois

What did you do Jewish growing up?

I received my Jewish education from Solomon Schechter and Camp Ramah in Wisconsin. I was a volunteer at my synagogue’s Hebrew School and a board member of its USY chapter.

Where did you go to school?

Bradley University for undergrad and Ball State for Graduate School.

What do you do for work?

I’m a special education teacher.

Do you consider yourself a Jewish comedian or a comedian who is Jewish?

I consider myself a comedian who is Jewish. I make a lot of jokes about being Jewish, but I like to write jokes about other topics as well.

What do you do for fun/to relax?

I am constantly writing or trying out new jokes at open mics, I love attending shows around the city, and rewatching the same things on Netflix.

What is your favorite way to spend Shabbat?

I like when my family is together for dinner.

What is your favorite Jewish food?

That is a toss-up between bagels and lox or Hamentaschen.

Top three things on your Chicago bucket list?

Finally getting off the Chicago Bears Season ticket waiting list, get through a winter where no one posts a condescending status about how we live in Chicago and we should be used to driving in snow, and riding the Ferris wheel at Navy Pier without crying.

What is your favorite hidden gem in the city?

The Otherworld Theatre

What is your favorite part about the Jewish Chicago community?

Reminiscing about camp even if we didn’t go to the same one. Shout out to Ramah Wisconsin…
