Meet Jewish Person of the Week Ariel Tidhar
Meet Ariel Tidhar, Creator and Owner of ARIEL TIDHAR Jewelry
Where are you from?
I grew up in Rogers Park & Skokie
What did you do Jewish growing up?
Growing up I attended Solomon Schechter, the JCC for camp, synagogue occasionally and was mostly Jewish at home with the food we ate, holiday practices, trips to Israel to visit family.
What do you do Jewish now?
My jewelry and accessories brand is Jewish through and through. Every day I wake up to design, produce, sell and distribute very loud and proud Judaica.
Where did you go to school?
I went to Solomon Schechter, followed by Niles North High School, and then I graduated in 2016 with a BFA in Fashion Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY
What is your favorite Chicago Jewish food place?
My first instinct is to say HaShalom or Sara’s Kitchen (two Israeli restaurants I grew up going to that sadly are no longer around). My current Chicago favorite is Masa Madre. This past Rosh Hashanah when I was in town we had a guava Challah from them and I’m still dreaming about it!
Where do you live now?
Clinton Hill in Brooklyn, New York
Tell us all about Ariel Tidhar Jewelry
Upon graduating in 2016, I couldn’t find work and I was jumping around between short freelance gigs. I was offered a solo gallery show (the show went up in August 2017 – called RIMON 2017 ) for pomegranate sculptures I was making.
I sold off pieces from my gallery show which also consisted of very large laser-cut Hamsas. In August 2018 – I launched the first-ever ARIEL TIDHAR accessories collection inspired by RIMON 2017, and have been growing ever since.
The brand is colorful, whimsical, modern Judaica that consists of jewelry, hair accessories, and homewares all of which emphasize being unapologetically Jewish.
We have been featured in the likes of TeenVogue, Nylon.com, HeyAlma, Food Network; The Ultimate Hanukkah Challenge, Time out New York, and more.
Where do we learn more?
I’m Ariel Tidhar on all the platforms on the internet. Instagram and our website are the best places to keep up with myself and the brand.
