Hebrew Seminary, a Rabbinical School for Deaf & Hearing, is a unique pluralistic egalitarian school. It is the only seminary in the world teaching both Deaf and hearing students to become rabbis and teachers to serve the Jewish Deaf and hearing community. Hebrew Seminary also offers non-degree programs. The curriculum integrates Kabbalah, Spiritual Healing, Bible, Hebrew and Talmud. Also incorporated are Jewish ethics, history and Deaf culture. Upon ordination, graduates will be able to relate to the Jewish Deaf anywhere. All students must also become proficient in American Sign Language (ASL). We also accept part-time students. The most unique aspect of the curriculum at Hebrew Seminary is the incorporation of Kabbalah and healing meditative practices. Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer, z”l wrote extensively on these subjects. Come and learn to hear the voice of G-D. There have been Deaf Jews throughout the over five thousand years of Judaism. There are an estimated 50,000 Deaf Jews in the United States today. In all that time, there has never been an organized effort to train rabbis to communicate with this community until 1992, when Hebrew Seminary was established. This unique pluralistic egalitarian rabbinical school for Deaf and hearing individuals was founded to meet the needs of all Jewish communities, especially those traditionally underserved, such as people who are Deaf and other Jewish minorities throughout the country.
