virtual shabbat clusters chitribe

What is a VIRTUAL Shabbat cluster? It is a call over zoom with 10 others (households) to light the candles together, say Kiddish, and Motzei (no matter what you are eating or where you are). These virtual clusters will happen over zoom and the goal is to create a space for you to experience Shabbat as part of a community. Also, we will, of course, play games and have ice breakers on every call.

Currently, ChiTribe Shabbat Clusters are all new and virtual! This week we are offering a special cluster about the “Plot Against America”. Have you binged this show this week of quarantine? Did you read the book? You should read the book. Let’s talk about it with Jonathan Kamel. Phillip Roth – greatest American Jewish author of all time or self-hating Jew? Join Jonathan Kamel in a discussion of this epic drama on HBO depicting a fictional America under a Charles Lindbergh presidency. We’ll dissect themes of nationalism, dual loyalties, and fear that Roth navigates in the American Jewish experience.

Binge of the Week: Shtisel May 15 8pm CDT

shtisel discussion chitribe

Shtisel (Hebrew: שטיסל‎) is an Israeli television drama series about a fictional Jewish family living in Geula, Jerusalem. The series follows the lives of Shulem Shtisel, the Shtisel patriarch and a Rabbi at the local yeshiva, as well as those of the other members of his family. Shtisel is set in a religious, Internet-free neighborhood. The community follows strict haredi customs and violating the norms often causes chaos within the family. However, the characters, who are more open to secular lifestyle, reflect Geula’s moderation in comparison to their neighbors in Mea She’arim, the adjacent community known for religious extremism. Streaming on Netflix.
