Film Screening: “Refugee Lullaby”

July 16, 2023 @ 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM

$5

Join Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center for a film screening presented in partnership with JCC Chicago Jewish Film Festival:

Hans Breuer, Austria’s last wandering shepherd, lives in the picturesque countryside just hours from where thousands of refugees cross his country’s borders to seek asylum. Breuer volunteers his time to help the refugees with everything from collecting food and water to driving them safely across the Hungarian border. His acts of kindness are not motivated by charity, but solidarity: his father, a Jewish dissident, escaped Austria before World War II.

“Refugee Lullaby” follows Breuer as he dedicates his life to helping refugees throughout Europe, and how other ordinary citizens step up to assist refugees. At its heart, it is a film about human compassion, its origins, and its boundaries, connecting Jewish history with current reality.
